Nolan Arenado’s Hitting Streak Continues.

On Sunday, April 27, 2014; The Colorado Rockies’ Third Baseman, Nolan Arenado finished out a 17-game hitting streak. So far in the 2014 Season, Arenado has gotten 31 hits out of 104 at bats, 4 home runs, and a Batting Average of .298. Currently, the Colorado Rockies are in Second Place in the National League West Division.

Dave Elmore.

Dave Elmore, who has been the respected owner of the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, is to be inducted into the Pacific Coast League (PCL) Hall of Fame this season. Elmore bought the Hawaii Islanders based in Honolulu, HI; back in 1981, and moved the team to Colorado in 1988, where the team was renamed the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. Elmore has been a Triple AAA Team owner now for 33 years.

The 2014 Colorado Springs Sky Sox Home Opener.

On Opening Day, as the Sky Sox faced the Round Rock Express, Colorado Springs trailed by a score of 8 to 1, when they mounted a monstrous come back, particularly with five runs scored in the Bottom of the 7th.  Tim Wheeler sent the opening day game into extra innings with a two-run homer. Then Drew Garcia parked a Roy Hobbs Homer over the center-field wall to win the game.  The Colorado Springs Sky Sox came back to defeat the Round Rock Express by a score of 11 to 10.

This also means, of course,  that Spring Training is just around the corner! During the Off Season, The Rockies signed Relief Pitcher, LaTroy Hawkins. They also signed  Catcher, Michael McKenrey to a Minor League Contract as protection for Wilin Rosario, the starting Catcher for the Colorado Rockies.

Historic First in Colorado Rockies History.

The Colorado Rockies then decided that no one will ever wear “Number 17” again. Todd Helton became the very first player in the History of the Colorado Rockies to have his number retired.

Todd Helton retired from Major League Baseball at the end of the 2013 Season. He played a total of 17 years in the Major Leagues, and all of them with the Colorado Rockies.  Here are some of his all time records which could qualify him for induction into Cooperstown in a few years:

b) 1406 Career RBI’s.

c) Five Consecutive All Star Games (2000 to 2004).

d) 3 Golden Glove Awards.

e) 592 Doubles (Rank 16 on all time list).

f) .953 OPS (Rank 19 on all time list).

g) 998 Extra Base Hits (Rank 37  on all time list).
